Archdiocese Cuts Catholic Standard and More Jobs, Sandusky's Son Allegations, Heat Damaged Roads

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia will end publication of the Catholic Standard and Times and suspend Phaith Magazine. These and more cuts are an effort to reduce a projected deficit exceeding $17 million. The Archdiocesan Pastoral Center will reduce staff by 45 positions, consolidating 19 offices. There will also be no raises for the remaining staff next year.

New molestation accusations have surfaced by Jerry Sandusky’s own adopted son Matt Sandusky who planned to testify against Jerry Sandusky if his father had taken the stand. Travis Weaver now 30 claims in a lawsuit Sandusky abused him more than 100 times starting when he was 10 years old. The jury is now sequestered for deliberations.

The excessive heat caused Route 422 to buckle yesterday. The east bound lanes near the St Gabe’s curve between Oaks and Route 363 had to be shut down. They fixed and reopened it last night, however another buckle opened in the westbound lanes near Limerick. In this heat, there is no predicting where buckling roadways will happen. Be alert. Use extra care driving during the heat wave.
