Post-Christmas Deal Shopping, Kensington Hit and Run, Storm Moving Out

Shoppers flocked to the malls yesterday. Some to get out of the wet weather, some to exchange unwanted holiday gifts. Many were there to shop - using gift cards they received for Christmas or Hanukkah. The week between Christmas and New Years has become a good week for retailers since the popularization of gift cards. Shoppers are finding better sales now than pre-Christmas.

Philadelphia police are still searching for the driver who ran over a woman twice in Kensington on Christmas night. Witnesses report seeing a dark colored car drive over a woman lying on the sidewalk at a parking lot entrance. The driver, a Hispanic woman according to witnesses, reversed over the woman, then fled. The victim died of head injuries at Temple Hospital. Anyone with information should call 215-685-3180.

The storm system moved through overnight with strong winds bringing some trees down here. The Jersey shore had winds up to 75 miles per hour. At the Philadelphia airport, over 200 flights were cancelled. There are a few delays today, so call ahead if you are booked. There were only a few power outages across the region and this system is moving away. The next storm hits Philadelphia Saturday with accumulating snow likely.

Sports
The 76ers beat the Grizzlies 99-89.

Weather
Showers ending this morning. Windy today. 40 degrees in Center City.
