Just as everyone heads to the shore to start the Memorial Day Weekend, disaster struck on the Garden State Parkway. At 2:30 this afternoon a construction dump truck went off the southbound Parkway's Great Egg Harbor Bridge and into the water near the Somers Point Toll Plaza in Cape May County. The driver was able to free himself from the truck and was airlifted to the Atlantic City Medical Center. The southbound lanes of the Garden State Parkway have been closed off and on all day causing huge traffic problems for those heading down for the holiday. Authorities are still investigating the accident. Drivers should try to use Route 50 if they are stuck north of the accident scene. The lanes have reopened at this point.

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, NJ has confirmed that an EF-1 tornado touched down yesterday in Kent County, DE. The maximum winds were estimated at 105 mph.

The boil-water advisory has been lifted in lower Montgomery County. The warning affected 18,000 residents in East Norriton, West Norriton, Lower Providence, Whitpain, Worcester, and Whitemarsh Townships. Pennsylvania American Water says that two consecutive days of water tests both showed acceptable levels.

A bear was spotted in Bensalem Friday morning near Bensalem Boulevard and Clearview Avenue. Police were monitoring the animal before losing sight of him. If you see the bear, do not approach, call police. Hopefully the animal heads back to the woods.

A first-grader who collapsed this week at a South Philadelphia elementary school died of a congenital heart defect. Spokesman James Garrow of the Philadelphia Department of Health said that 7-year-old Sebastian Gerena died of "anomalous origin of the left coronary artery," a condition that researchers say can lead to sudden death among the young. School staff tried to resuscitate the boy using CPR but he was pronounced dead at the hospital. The school only has a nurse Thursday and every other Friday.

Mostly Cloudy, temperatures in the lower 70's/upper 60's in Center City.
