Storm Outages, 911 Recordings Released on Deadly Gesner Fire, MERS Ruling Could Pay Millions

Strong storms rolled through last night with high winds and brief heavy rain bringing down tree limbs and knocking out the power. Many roads are still closed for tree and power line cleanup. And as of this morning, over 130,000 customers were still without electricity in PA, NJ and DE.

Philadelphia police have released the recordings of the 911 calls received during the fire on Gesner Street that destroyed ten homes and killed four young children. With a firehouse just 225 yards away, many residents complained that firefighters were slow to respond. However the 911 calls prove otherwise. The first call came in at 2:44 am and the first ladder truck arrived on the scene at 2:48. Transcript below.

Montgomery County could be in line for a $16 million windfall in a federal ruling against the banking industry’s mortgage registry. Other counties nationwide are now looking to get in on it. A Philadelphia judge ruled that Mortgage Electronic Registration Systems (MERS) violated PA law and circumvented county deeds offices. According to the ruling, counties lost millions of dollars in fees.
