Schuylkill Boardwalk Open; Archdiocese Raises Money in Land Sale; Penn Doctor Quarantined

The Schuylkill Banks Boardwalk (pictured) opened yesterday. The $18 million floating concrete walkway is 15 feet wide and runs between Locust and South Streets. The walkway on the water is actually supported by pillars drilled into the river bed. The new walkway is sure to be a favorite new jogging path adding 8 miles to trails between the Delaware River and the Fairmount Dam.

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia has raised more than $56 million through the sale of land. Officials say the transactions involve the sale of more than 700 acres of land including 200 acres in Delaware County that had been home to church facilities for men with disabilities. Those residents will be relocated as the new owners prepare for residential development.

An NBC medical correspondent from Penn is on her way back to the U.S. from Liberia along with a cameraman who has tested positive for the Ebola virus. Dr. Nancy Snyderman, the freelance cameraman and the rest of their crew will be quarantined for 21 days in an abundance of caution. Snyderman, the Penn doctor, has not experienced any Ebola symptoms herself, but the entire crew is taking it very seriously.
