Philadelphia Police are looking to identify and locate a man they say attempted to rape a young woman in South Philadelphia earlier the week. The incident occurred this past Wednesday on the 1300 block of Wharton Street around 1:30 a.m. Police say a 19-year-old woman was walking down the street when she was approached by a man who grabbed her and forced her to the ground. The victim was able to use mace on the face of the suspect, who then fled on foot north on the 1200 block of South Clarion Street. The suspect has been described as a black male standing 5'7", 225 lbs, with a medium build, and roughly 37-years-old. Anyone with information about the suspect is urged to contact police.

The third lane of the southbound span of the Delaware Memorial Bridge re-opened last evening after the DRBA contractor completed the urgent construction work required. Construction crews were focused on repair work associated with the replacement of a few suspension ropes in close proximity to each other. The left lane will remain closed for the foreseeable future. Commercial vehicles are restricted to the right two lanes only. The speed limit is set at 50 mph.

Starting this Fall, Pennsylvania State students once again will be seen canning for the last time to benefit THON, a benefit for childhood cancer victims and research. The university has decided to phase out canning by 2019 after the deaths of two students in traffic accidents. All students participating in canning this fall must complete a safety courses. Since 1977, THON has brought in more than $127 million for families of children with cancer and for pediatric cancer research.
