Lower Merion school district officials have sent a letter home to parents warning them of a YouTube video that contains high school students using drugs and alcohol. The video called "I'm Shmacked" shows binge drinking, marijuana use, window smashing, and use of drugs and alcohol.

"Communities across the country are struggling with these same issues - with teenagers making incredibly dangerous decisions involving drugs and alcohol. For a company to glorify and profit from these behaviors is particularly appalling," School spokesman Doug Young said.

The "I'm Shmacked" creators are Yofray Ray, 18, and Arya Toufanian, 19. Ray' graduated from Lower Merion High and lived in Narberth before moving to Manhattan. Toufanian is studying at George Washington University and grew up in Potomac, Md.

Ray and Toufanian described the "I'm Shmacked" series of college videos as "a movie documenting the experience of a weekend at 20 of the best and biggest universities around the United States intertwined with a book and a website being pitched to major publishers and studios."

"No alcohol or illegal substance is used during the filming, just props for a movie," the Facebook page states. "However, I personally am completely Shmacked when filming/photoing."

Lower Merion police superintendent, Mike McGrath, said the department's juvenile unit was investigating. The video does depict underage drinking and drug use. They will have to determine if the claim that only props were used is true. As for the actual filming, that was done away from school grounds and is not something the county would even investigate.

The school district will, however, issue appropriate disciplinary measures for those students involved. Debate has arose whether or not the school even has jurisdiction to punish students for something that happened off campus, last summer, and may/may not have involved actual illegal activity.

Regardless, Lower Merion will send letters to those families again in the coming days.

For the record, being "Shmacked" means "to be so drunk or so high that you are unable to function"
