The man accused of shooting and wounding six Philadelphia Police officers during a standoff in North Philadelphia's Tioga/Nicetown section has been arraigned and charged with attempted murder on Saturday, 8/17. 36-year-old Maurice Hill is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault of law enforcement officer, simple assault, and recklessly endangering another person. He was denied bail. The hours long standoff situation happened on Wednesday, 8/14. It began when officers attempted to serve an arrest warrant for drug charges, but were met with heavy fire from Hill. Charges against four others are expected to be announced on Monday. It is incredible that no one was killed and the wounded only suffered minor injuries.

A New Jersey man has turned himself in to police after an 11-year-old boy was attacked in Wildwood on Friday morning, 8/16. 28-year-old John Kalin of Wildwood surrendered to police on Friday night. He was charged with violation of law intended to protect public health and safety as well as a local ordinance prohibiting dogs on the beach. It happened around 6:30 a.m. near Rio Grande Avenue beach. The boy asked Kalin for permission to pet the dog, which was a black-and-white pit bull type. The dog leapt forward and bit the boy in the face. "As family members realized the severity of the injury and called 911, the handler fled the area with his dog prior to the arrival of emergency services," Wildwood police said in a Facebook post. The boy was was taken to a local hospital, and then airlifted to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He is expected to require extensive surgeries due to severe injuries to his face.

Police are investigating after a nearly 2-year-old girl was found dead inside a vehicle parked at a PATCO station in Camden County, New Jersey, on Friday afternoon, 8/16. The 22-month-old was spotted by a passerby around 2:30 p.m. in a minivan parked at the PATCO Lindenwold station. It is not known how long she was inside the van. Authorities were unable to resuscitate the child. The family returned to the car around 5:30 p.m. The official cause of death has not been released. The investigation is ongoing.
