7-year-old Zamar Jones, who was shot in the head as he played on his porch on Sunday, 8/2, has died from his injuries. It happened around 7:30 p.m. on the 200 block of North Simpson Street in West Philadelphia. Jones was playing with his toys when he was caught in the crossfire of a shootout between two groups of people. 16 shell casings were found at the scene. Jones was rushed to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia where he died on Monday afternoon, 8/3. Police have arrested and charged one man and are looking for two other suspects. 27-year-old Christopher Linder was initially charged with two counts each of attempted murder, aggravated assault, lying to authorities, and tampering with evidence along with gun crimes, stealing a car, and related offenses. The District Attorney's Office announced he is now charged with murder. "I join Philadelphians across the city in expressing sadness and outrage that senseless gun violence has once again caused grievous injury to a child," District Attorney Krasner said. "Every kid deserves to live free of violence, harm, or fear. All children deserve an opportunity to develop and grow into healthy, happy adults."

It all started when Linder, driving a blue/silver Chevy Silverado drove down the block, put his hand out the window and opened fire on a group of people. Two men standing outside returned fire at the truck. Linder then rear ended a GMC Yukon at the end of the block. He got out of his truck, got into the Yukon and fled the scene. Police found the Yukon abandoned at 64th and Race streets. Police say that while they were still at the scene, Linder returned and tried to get back into his Silverado. They gave chase and arrested him. If you have any information call 215-686-TIPS.

UPDATE: Police have released the names of the two other suspects. They are looking for Damar Bashier Jones, 27, and Michael Banks, 30.

UPDATE: Jones and Banks are now in police custody. They face murder and related charges.

Philadelphia Police say that a woman cleaning a Philadelphia School District elementary school was found dead on Friday afternoon, 7/31. The 51-year-old female employee was found around 2 p.m. by a co-worker in a third-floor bathroom of Julia de Burgos Elementary school on the 400 block of West Lehigh Avenue. The medical examiner will perform an autopsy to determine cause of death.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy announced on Monday, 8/3, that they are retightening the restrictions on indoor gatherings. This is due to the continued increase in new daily cases of coronavirus COVID-19. Murphy attributed the rise of the transmission rate to number of indoor house parties across the state, especially some very large parties requiring police intervention. Contact tracing has found clusters of hot spots that lead directly to large indoor gatherings. Under the new guidelines, indoor gatherings are limited to 25% capacity or a MAXIMUM of 25 people, down from a max of 100. These specific gatherings are still limited to 25% capacity, but with a MAXIMUM of 100 people: Weddings, Funerals, Memorial services, Religious and political activities protected under the first amendment.
