Xponential Festival is a success!
  by: Kibarra - Philadelphia, PA
started: 07/24/12 2:31 am | updated: 07/24/12 2:31 am
This past weekend I was fortunate enough to attend both the Firefly Music Festival in Dover, DE, and the Xponential Festival in Camden, NJ. Although they took place during the same three days, the Xponential Festival had a suprising turnout. Xponential might not have had as famous of artists such as Jack White and the Black Keys, but they did headline Dr. Dog, Wilco, and Counting Crows. I was surprised at the large turnout at Xponential as it is on a much smaller scale and mostly only local... Read More

Breakwater reunites at World Cafe Live 7/21

Breakwater, a soulful funk band from Philadelphia, emerged onto the music scene in 1978. They played locally and cranked out covers and original cuts at block parties, bars, and other venues. Once they were signed to Artista Records, their singles crept onto the music charts and made an impact on radio rotations. As ready as they seemed to take on the fame and fortune, they broke up in the mid 80s and slowly drifted apart.

Out of the blue Breakwater has reunited recently and is... Read More

Pittsburg Symphony Orchestra has brought "The Legend of Zelda" to life with their orchestra rendition, The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses. It is the first video game themed concert to feature a four movement symphony focusing on the original tracks of the Nintendo composer, Koji Kondo. Along with the compelling music, the orchestra will be featuring a cinematic video presentation, syncing game play to the live music.

As "The Legend of Zelda" is among the most... Read More
Carly Rae Jepsen records new hit "Good Time" with Owl City
  by: Kibarra - Philadelphia, PA
started: 07/17/12 2:13 am | updated: 07/17/12 5:04 am
Carly Rae Jepsen has become famous for her catchy summer song "Call Me Maybe", which has been No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100 songs for the past 5 weeks. Her demographic has been vast as she reached 7 year olds to 27 year olds. This song, though catchy and upbeat, has the same lyrical potential as "Friday" by Rebecca Black (who is releasing her album in December 2012 btw). However, Jepsen did not want to go down in music history as another one-hit-wonder and has already recorded a song with Owl... Read More

This year they are hoping for a larger turnout than last due to Pennsylvania's vast farm land. Katy Perry: Part of Me 3D in theaters; Inspiring story of her rise to fame and life in spotlight
  by: Kibarra - Philadelphia, PA
started: 07/05/12 5:22 pm | updated: 07/05/12 5:22 pm
Today, July 5th, Katy Perry's documentary is premiering. Not only does it focus on hardships of her career but also the demise of her marriage to English comedian, Russell Brand. As the film is a concert experience, it follows her on her first ever international tour through the ups and downs. It is very inspiring movie as it shows clips of her younger self singing, how she still suffers from self- confidence issues, and how she pulled through the divorce with a smile on her face. Considering... Read More

Sigur Ros has not been on tour in four years, possibly due to frontman Jónsi Birgisson's solo work, and chose to start off in the great city of Philadelphia! They will be performing at Mann Center July 29th and 30th.

This unique Icelandic band has been producing music since 1994 and have grown to incorporate their eclectic sounds into glorious music that will give you goosebumps. I personally have been an avid listener since 2001. Their incredible sound features classical and... Read More

Philadelphia's own Barnes Foundation has finally reached a finish point. After much controversy over whether to move the artwork to Center City or keep it in Lower Merion, it has been moved to a incredible new building, built especially for the collection. The new building, on Benjamin Franklin Parkway, has been constructed with many of the influences of Albert C. Barnes including a central glass atrium to enhance the natural light... Read More
Curtis Institute Streams Symphony Orchestra Concerts
  by: Kibarra - Philadelphia, PA
started: 05/17/12 12:13 am | updated: 05/17/12 12:13 am
Our technology has reached the point that we can stream music, movies and live events no matter where we are. Philadelphia's Curtis Institute has brought that idea to streaming their classical concerts live. This will start a whole new way of experiencing symphonies and bringing them to a broader audience than just those able to be in attendance in person. As I am busy, I would love to "attend" a live concert while doing work at my home or... Read More
Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros Live in Upper Darby - Set List
  by: Kibarra - Philadelphia, PA
started: 05/13/12 10:50 pm | updated: 05/16/12 4:35 am
Friday night, 5/11, I saw Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros in Upper Darby at the Tower Theater. Fool's Gold opened for them and it was an incredible experience, best concert I have been to, besides Arcade Fire. Their energy was so incredible, amping up the entire audience until every single person was dancing and singing along. Although they did not have a setlist, I was able to write down the list they did play. Of course they played the golden oldies off of Up From Below, which I have... Read More
