An off-duty police officer from the 22nd District is dead, after he was struck by a car around midnight. A mother and son were bitten by a pit bull in the city's Kensington neighborhood Thursday afternoon.
It happened near Coral and Firth streets. Authorities say the dog bit the child in the leg and then bit the mother as she tried to help her son. Police also say the father hit the dog with a hammer to free the boy. Animal Control officers were called to the scene and took the dog away.

Tesla took the stage around 7:45 with the energy and intensity they always bring to the stage. The results of Penn State's internal investigation into the Jerry Sandusky sex abuse scandal were set to be released Thursday morning. The investigation, led by former federal judge and FBI director Louis Freeh interviewed hundreds of people to learn what Penn State officials did or didn’t do after allegations against Sandusky began surfacing about 14 years ago. Sandusky was convicted on 45 criminal counts in June.

Several South Philadelphia community organizations are offering a $3,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect responsible for two early morning robberies this past June in the heart of Queen Village. Bella Vista Townwatch, Queen Village Neighborhood Association, Headhouse District and Society Hill Civic Association are among the groups that raised the $3,500 reward.

Farm Aid's principals - Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Neil Young and Dave Matthews - have announced this year's Farm Aid concert. A veteran Philadelphia highway patrol officer is dead, after his motorcycle was struck by a wrong-way driver on I-95 northbound early Sunday morning. Officer Brian Lorenzo was 48-years old and a 23-year veteran. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the striking car, John Leck Jr. of Levittown, was supposedly found to be driving under the influence.

Sixteen-year-old Nafis Scott of Germantown was arrested and taken into custody after opening fire on two other teens. Police say Scott shot the teens following a neighborhood dispute that began last month. The incident played out on JFK Boulevard, a few blocks away from the Welcome America! festivities on the Parkway Wednesday. Police have charged Scott with two counts of aggravated assault, assault on a police officer and fire arms violations.

Throughout Cumberland and Atlantic counties, the damage is severe. Thousands are still without power and some are now homeless. In Vineland, trees have leveled dozens of homes at two trailer parks. For the fortunate, a few generators are running, but most are in to their fourth full day without power in sweltering heat. As of Wednesday late morning 36,000 are still without power.
