A 17-year-veteran of the Philadelphia Police force turned himself in on Wednesday on multiple domestic-related incidents. 51-year-old officer Gerald Smith has now been charged with six-misdemeanors including assault and terroristic threats. A federal jury acquitted Pennsylvania senator Larry Farnese on Wednesday, after he was under investigation on charges that he spent $6,000 of campaign money as bribes to help him win a Democratic Party ward leadership election in 2011. The acquittal comes after 5 days of testimony from Farnese. SEPTA officials stated that they have officially done away with giving refunds for late trains. SEPTA briefly stopped giving refunds for late trains over the summer after losing one-third of its rail cars created many delays. The service guarantee gave passengers the chance to request a full refund on Regional Rail tickets if a train was more than 15 minutes late. The Hurricanes sealed a 5-1 victory over the Flyers Tuesday night, breaking their 3 game win streak. The Flyers started to fall short in the first period as the Hurricanes led 2-0 and out shot the Flyers 8-4. The Hurricanes then scored again, making it 3-0 at the end of the 2nd period. A man is now in critical condition after being struck by a car in Northeast Philadelphia on Tuesday night. The incident happened on the 9800 block of Roosevelt Boulevard right near Bowler Street around 7 pm. The man, reported to be in his 40's or 50's, was struck in the northbound lanes of Roosevelt Boulevard. Philadelphia Police are now investigating after a woman was struck by a car in South Philadelphia. The hit-and-run happened on 2nd and South Street before 2 a.m. on Monday.
