The Justice Department has announced a settlement in the racial discrimination case against the former Valley Swim club in Huntingdon Valley dating back to June 2009. The suburban swim club allowed Creative Steps Day Camp of Northeast Philadelphia access to the pool for summer campers. After the first day, they refunded the camp's money and asked them not to return. The club claimed there were too many campers and they were too rowdy for lifeguards to handle. The campers claimed they heard... Read More

Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. which owns Greenhouse on Vandam Street in SoHo, and shares space, a liquor license and owners with W.I.P. has filed a $16 million lawsuit against hip hop stars Chris Brown and Drake.

The lawsuit stems from a bottle breaking, glass flying brawl that broke out between the two and their entourages on June 14th, presumably over their shared love interest in singer Rihanna. The incident started when Brown sent Drake a bottle of champagne and Drake sent... Read More

  by: iradioal - Philadelphia, PA

Commonwealth Court Judge Robert Simpson issued a decision today that denied a bid by various civil rights groups looking to block the new Pennsylvania Voter ID law from taking effect. Simpson said that the plainiffs, which included the ACLU and others, failed to prove that “disenfranchisement was immediate or inevitable” or that not issuing an injuction would cause “greater injury.” In fact he said stopping the process now would get in the way of preparations underway for the November... A recent study on Adult Obesity shows that Pennsylvanians are a bit larger around the waist than a few of our neighbors. The study was conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and split out each state by the percentage of the population considered to be obese. The numbers are not very flattering. The states are ranked in order of most to least obese. Pennsylvania comes in at 28.6% of the population considered extremely overweight, which is good for #20. That's compared to 23.7% in New... The Archdiocese of Philadelphia is set to auction off its large beachfront property in Ventnor, NJ to help payoff some of a $17 million deficit. The 11-bedroom, 10,000 sq-ft Villa St. Joseph retreat has been a respite for priests for 50 years, but the $115,000 a year in property taxes combined with $10 million in legal fees spent by the Archdiocese in the past two years on a criminal trial and lawsuits has forced Archbishop Chaput's hand to sell. The property, which spans an entire block, is... Read More

London Closing Ceremonies, What is in store for tonight's performance?

Two weeks ago we were treated to Trainspotting and Slumdog Millionaire Director Danny Boyle's universally acclaimed Opening Ceremonies for the London 2012 Olympic Games. 2008 Beijing's scale and pageantry would have been impossible to top, and quite simply the UK is not China. The British might have a stereotype of being stuffy and carrying a stiff upper lip, they certainly aren't a regimented culture where everyone has a singular personality. Even the Queen, of all people, had a little fun and... Read More

Each and every August as the Earth's annual orbit takes it through the remains of the comet Swift-Tuttle, we are treated to a dramatic show of meteors streaking through the sky called the Perseids. Named because they seem to radiate from the constellation Perseus, this meteor shower will peak this weekend through August 13th.

It is not uncommon to see up to 60 meteors an hour with the Perseids. The moon is in a waning crescent phase, meaning is small, and getting smaller. Friday... Read More
