Derer had been living there for about a month with three roommates in their 20s. His family reported him missing on May 9th after not hearing from him for a few days. Police found his remains when they went to his residence to investigate the missing person report. Ciacca and his brother, 25-year-old Andrew Ciaccia, along with Andrew's girlfriend, 21-year-old Vanessa Pena, concocted a scheme to steal Derer's pension and social security checks to fuel their drug habits. Ciacca was also charged with false imprisonment, criminal conspiracy, robbery, possessing instruments of crime, theft, receiving stolen property, tampering with evidence, obstructing justice and abuse of a corpse. The couple were previously arrested and charged with tampering with evidence, obstructing justice, abuse of a corpse and criminal conspiracy.

She is a teacher at a Pennsauken school and the daughter of Pennsuaken Mayor Jack Killion. The video shot from inside the store shows Killion in a black Nissan sedan driving briefly outside the store. The car then makes a hard left to smash striaght through the front glass of the knocking everything and everyone over. Three people suffered minor injuries. The owners do plan on rebuilding, but do not have a time table.
