An advisory panel of independent medical experts have endorsed Johnson & Johnson's coronavirus COVID-19 vaccine after a public hearing on Friday, 2/26. The FDA's Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee voted 22-0 to recommend the vaccine for an Emergency Use Authorization concluding that the benefits of the vaccine outweighed the risks for adults. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is expected to accept the panel's decision and should sign off on an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) shortly. J&J could start shipping vaccine doses next week. Unlike the current Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, J&J only requires a single shot and can be kept in regular refrigerators. This could make it easier to reach remote and disadvantaged regions. It is 66% effective at preventing moderate disease and 85% effective and preventing serious disease. J&J expects to ship 20 million doses by the end of March.

UPDATE: The Food and Drug Administration has granted emergency use authorization to Johnson and Johnson's coronavirus COVID-19 vaccine. The single dose vaccine is expected to start shipping next week.

Two people were shot and injured in the parking lot of a Walmart in Lehigh County on Friday night, 2/26. It happened just before 6 p.m. at the store on MacArthur Road in Whitehall Township. The two were taken to the hospital. No additional information is available at this time.

UPDATE: The two victims were found near a parked car with the engine still running. A female victim was rushed to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest. She was pronounced dead at 7:40 p.m. A second victim was also shot and received medical attention. No arrests have been made.

Philadelphia Police have released new surveillance video of an armed robbery and shooting at a cell phone store earlier this week. It happened after 5 p.m. at the Boost Mobile store on the 6100 block of Ridge Avenue in Roxborough. Two suspects entered the store and one shot an employee in the leg. The suspects then started searching through the merchandise, stopping periodically to strike the employee with the gun. They made off with 8 iPhones, the employee's phone, and $500 in cash. They drove off in an older model silver Chevy Impala with a black rim on the front driver's side and front end damage. The one suspect is described as a Black male, thin build wearing a black mask, dark colored coat with fur on the collar, black Nike sweatpants, black sneakers, and armed with a semi-automatic firearm. The second suspect is described as a Black male, thin build, goatee wearing a black jacket with grey hooded sweatshirt underneath, tan cargo pants and black Nike Air Force 1 sneakers, a "Jordan" brand backpack, and armed with a semi-automatic firearm. If you have any information, call Northwest Detective Division at 215-686-3353/3354.
