A mistrial was declared in the federal corruption case against Philadelphia Councilman Kenyatta Johnson and his wife Dawn Chavous on Tuesday, 4/19. The jury deliberation for 25 hours over several days and told the judge that they were "unable to unanimously come to an agreement" and they don't "believe any individual will change their minds, even with additional evidence." Johnson and Chavous were accused of taking bribes from a real estate developer, in the form of a consulting contract, to get favorable zoning on a property. Federal prosecutors plan to re-try the couple.

A New Jersey man is now charged with federal hate crimes following a spree of hit-and-runs targeting Orthodox Jewish men in Lakewood, NJ, earlier this month. 27-year-old Dion Marsh is charged with four counts of violating the federal Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act and one count of carjacking. Three of the hate crimes are for attempted murder and the other is for assault. It started around 1:18 p.m. on April 8. Marsh pulled a man from his car and assaulted him. He then stole the vehicle. Later that afternoon in three separate incidents, Marsh used that same car to deliberately run over three Orthodox Jewish men. The first and third victims suffered severe injuries and broken bones. After hitting the second victim, Marsh allegedly got out of the car and stabbed the victim in the chest with a knife. He was arrested at his home. Marsh faces life in prison if convicted.

There is a $30,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in the murder of a Philadelphia police officer's son. Philadelphia Police have released surveillance footage of the two suspects. It happened on Monday, January 24, at 4:40 a.m. on the 1400 block of West Allegheny Avenue. 24-year-old Hyram Hill has just walked out of Maria's Mini Mart when he was approached by two armed men. The two men attempted to rob him, but opened fire. Hill was hit 9 times. The men fled in the same stolen silver Kia Forte that they arrived. Hill was taken to Temple University Hospital where he died. The suspects are described, Suspect #1: as Black male, wearing a blue hooded jacket with white stripes on the hood, chest, and arms of the jacket. He is also observed walking with a noticeable limp. Suspect #2: Black male, unknown clothing description. If you have any information, call 215.686.TIPS (8477).

UPDATE: 23-year-old Levar Turner has turned himself in to police. He is charged with murder, robbery, criminal conspiracy and weapons-related charges.
