The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office has announced charges on Wednesday, 7/20, related to the gunpoint rape on a SEPTA platform earlier this week. 20-year-old Namir Thomas is charged with indecent sexual intercourse, two counts of robbery, two counts of unlawful restraint, and firearms and related offenses. The attack happened early Monday morning, 7/18, at the Snyder station of the Broad Street Line. The 40-year-old female victim was with her boyfriend while trying on some clothes when they were approached by the suspect. The suspect pointed a gun at both people before sexually assaulting the woman. He fled on a bicycle. Police released surveillance video of the suspect wearing a NASA sweatshirt and received numerous tips.

A Philadelphia woman has been charged in the death of a toddler she had been fostering through the Department of Human Services. 30-year-old Kiana Casey is charged with third-degree murder, tampering with evidence, aggravated assault of a child and other related charges. Authorities were called to the 2600 block of Holbrook Street on Tuesday, July 12. 3-year-old Hope Jones was rushed Children's Hospital of Philadelphia where she was pronounced dead a short time later. The Medical Examiner's Office said the cause of death was blunt force trauma. The investigation is ongoing.

A man was arrested and charged with arson after setting a Target store on fire as a diversion to steal a cart full of merchandise. 26-year-old Desmond Smith is charged with first-degree arson, 19 counts of first-degree reckless endangering, criminal mischief of $5,000 or greater, shoplifting under $1,500, and wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony. He was arrested at his home on Monday, July 18. It happened on July 10 at the Target store on John Hunn Brown Road in Dover, DE. The fire started in the linen section. It was quickly evacuated and no injuries were reported. However, $3 million to $4 million in merchandise was damaged. The store will be closed for several weeks. Smith is being held at Sussex Correctional Institution on $137,000 cash bond.
