25-year-old Brian Smart of Hatboro collapsed just after the 8-mile mark of the 10-mile Broad Street Run on Sunday morning, 5/5. He had suffered a heart attack and was transferred to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he passed away. Smart was currently employed at Upper Darby High School in Delaware County as an athletic trainer for multiple sports. He has worked at several other high schools and colleges in the area. A distraught man set a van on fire and attempted to set himself on fire in a Starbucks in Huntingdon Valley on Saturday, 5/4. It happened around 4:30 p.m. in the Huntingdon Valley Shopping Center on the 800 block of Huntingdon Pike. Police arrived to find a van engulfed in flames in the parking lot. Philadelphia Police have identified a suspect wanted for the shooting of a 13-year-old boy at a convenience store in Southwest Philadelphia early Wednesday morning, 5/1. Swarthmore College's two fraternities, Delta Upsilon and Phi Psi, have voted to disband. They posted statements to their Facebook pages on Tuesday night, 4/30. The frats' decisions come after student protests calling for them to be shutdown. New Jersey Democratic Governor Phil Murphy on Friday, 4/27, ordered the state flag of Mississippi replaced in a display at Liberty State Park because it contains a Confederate emblem.
