A jury spent a little more than an hour in deliberations to return a not guilty verdict in the trial of the engineer at the helm of the deadly Amtrak 188 derailment in Philadelphia in May 2015. 38-year-old engineer Brandon Bostian was charged with 8 counts of involuntary manslaughter, 246 counts of reckless endangerment, and one count of risking a catastrophe. The Centers for Disease Control announced changes to its masking guidance on Friday, 2/25. Under the old guidelines, 95% of counties in the US were considered areas of high transmission and required masking indoors. The new metrics still take into account case loads, but also factor in COVID hospitalizations, hospital capacity, etc. There is now a three tiered risk classification (low, medium, and high). The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has a approved a new map of congressional districts. The map is redrawn every 10 years to coincide with the US Census. Pennsylvania lost a seat in the House of Representatives due to population decline. It has gone from 18 to 17. This is the final map. The primary will still be held on May 17.

The suspected leader of a Philadelphia carjacking leader has been arrested. 28-year-old Jonathan Akubu of Lansdowne, Delaware County, is charged with the murder of two people, aggravated assault for shooting two others, robbery, and gun offenses.
