SEPTA Bus Crash Stops Short of Drop into Creek; Man Found Shot on I-295 Bucks; Woman Shot, Critical

A SEPTA bus stopped short of going over a wall and into a creek after it had already left the highway in Montgomery County on Sunday, 1/19. It happened on the off ramp from the Schuykill Expressway (I-76) at Gulph Mills. The bus went off the road way and down an embankment. Luckily, it came to a rest before the top of a retaining wall. Three young people were shot and critically injured in the Belmont section of Philadelphia on Saturday evening, 1/18. It happened just before 8 p.m. on the 800 block of North 41st Street. A 24-year-old man was shot twice in the head and once in the chest. A 19-year-old man was shot once in the back. A 17-year-old boy was shot once in the chest and once in the thigh. All three were taken to Penn Presbyterian Hospital in critical condition. No arrests have been made.

A 17-year-old has been charged in the deaths of his foster mother and a man who had recently been reported missing. Xavier Johnson is charged with the stabbing death of 64-year-old Renee Gilyard and 20-year-old Jimmy Mao, in separate incidents. Democratic Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey announced on Monday, 1/13, that he was suspending his campaign for president. The senator thanked his supporters in a tweet. Booker failed to qualify for the December primary debate and also did not meet the polling requirements for Tuesday's debate in Iowa. An 18-month-old was injured in a double shooting in Germantown on Sunday afternoon, 1/12. It happened shortly before 5 p.m. on the 100 block of East Pastorius Street.
