Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner announced murder charges against Hassan Elliot in the shooting death of Philadelphia Police Cpl. James O'Connor last Friday, 3/13. Elliot is charged with murder, criminal homicide of a law enforcement officer, seven counts of attempted criminal homicide of a law enforcement murder, and several other related charges. The Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the Diocese of Camden have each suspended public weekday and Sunday masses until further notice. The Archdiocese of Philadelphia's cancelation begins at noon on Wednesday, 3/18, while the Diocese of Camden's begins on Tuesday, 3/17. Priests will still celebrate daily mass privately and honor all requested Mass intentions. Penn Cancels On-Campus Commencement; MLB Opening Day Pushed Back; NFL Tampering Period Starts

The University of Pennsylvania announced that it is canceling this year's on-campus commencement scheduled for May 16 - 18th. Ceremonies will be held virtually. The university is working on plans for the online events and will announce further details in the coming weeks.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf announced on Monday, 3/16, that he is extending the shutdown orders to the rest of the state. Only essential businesses should remain open. The order had only previously effected four counties in suburban Philadelphia and one in Pittsburgh. "This isn't a decision that I take lightly at all," Wolf said. "It's one I'm making because medical experts believe it's the only way we can prevent our hospitals from being overwhelmed."

Man Shot to Death in Glenside; Three Murders in Philly on Sunday; Penn Relays Canceled

Cheltenham Police are investigating after a man was shot and killed in Glenside on Sunday night, 3/15. It happened just after 9 p.m. on the 400 block of West Glenside Avenue. The 28-year-old man was shot in the chest. He was taken to Abington Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The identity of the victim has not been released.
