All the speculation about trades or free agency can now end, Cole Hamels signed a contract extension with the Phillies for 6 years worth $144 million. That will keep the left hander with the club through 2018, with a club option for 2019.

Hamels gave Philadelphia every chance to be the first ones to sign the ace pitcher. The native of San Diego has grown to call Philadelphia his home. He has played every year of his 7-year career here in Philadephia after being selected 17th by... Read More

  by: iradioal - Philadelphia, PA
started: 07/09/12 9:03 pm | updated: 07/09/12 9:03 pm

New York Met's starting pitcher R.A. Dickey has had a career year so far in 2012 and leads the NL roster of pitchers in wins at 12 with a solid 2.40 ERA and 123 strike outs. However, National League manager Tony La Russa and staff decided to start San Francisco Giant Matt Cain instead (7-1, 2.87, 70 SO) to reward him for a "career of excellence". La Russa said it was a "tough call."

Dickey will enter the game in relief and La Russa has decided that when the knuckleball pitcher... Read More

Despite a loss and a plethora of pitching woes, the future may look a little brighter for the Phils

by: auggiebrian - West Grove, PA
started: 06/28/12 1:16 pm | updated: 06/28/12 1:16 pm

The Phillies lost in a high scoring bout last night, 11-7. The loss was nothing new, especially in Citizens Bank Park this year, where the Phils have had horrible outings this year, but the way in which the game went possibly gave fans some light at the end of the tunnel. Chase Utley returned to the lineup for the first time since game 5 of the NLDS. If that wasn't good enough, he went 3-5 with a solo home run in his first at bat. To add to the list of Utley's positives, he looked to have a... Read More

The Phillies are planning to activate Chase Utley for Wednesday's game vs. the Pirates. Utley's been playing official minor league rehab games for the Clearwater Threshers in Florida. He will probably play one more up here, most likely for AAA Lehigh Valley on Tuesday. He started those games hitting as a DH before eventually taking the field at 2B. His rehab assignment officially ends July 1st, but provided no setbacks he will end early. He played nine games for the Phillies’ Clearwater club... Read More

Phillies Win on Historic Walkoff by Jim Thome

  by: iradioal - Philadelphia, PA
started: 06/23/12 8:11 pm | updated: 06/23/12 8:11 pm

The Philadelphia Phillies beat the Tampa Bay Rays 7-6 this afternoon with a pinch-hit walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the 9th by Jim Thome. He came off the bench to pinch hit for Jonathan Papelbon, who blew the save with a two run lead in the top of the ninth. Thome has talked about how difficult pinch hitting is, without the regular at bats, but last week's American league road trip helped get him back in stride as the DH. He took the count to 3-2 today before launching a pitch to left... Read More
