Temple and Lehigh make NCAA Tournament; Drexel's Bubble Bursts

The 2012 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament brackets have been announced. As expected, the Temple Owls and Lehigh Engineers made the field of 68. Lehigh for sure because they won their Patriot League confererence tournaments automatic bid.

Temple, the 5 seed, and will begin play against 12 seed determined by the winner of the play in game between California and South Florida. They play in Nashville on Friday.

Temple Owls to join Big East Conference

The Temple Owls will join the Big East Conference for football starting next fall 2012, and all other sports the following year.

Temple's football program was a member of the Big East from 1991-2004, but were asked to leave the conference because of poor performance. The past three years have been good for the Owls, with 3 straight winning seasons, 2 bowl appearances, and 1 bowl win. They are currently in the Mid-American Conference.

After almost coming back from 16 down in the second half, the Drexel Dragons (27-6) lost the automatic bid from the CAA to the NCAA tournament 59-56 to VCU.

Lenny Dykstra Sentenced to 3 Years Prison

Former Phillies star centerfielder and self proclaimed financial/investment guru, Lenny Dykstra, was sentenced to three (out of a possible 4) years in California state prison today.

He had pleaded no contest to grand theft auto and filing a false financial statement that was part of scheme to steal cars. Dykstra tried to change his plea last minute to stand trial and fight the charges, but the judge rejected the plea withdrawal stating he had ample opportunities beforehand. He... Read More

Eagles place Franchise Tag on DeSean Jackson

The Philadelphia Eagles have officially placed the franchise tag on Wide Receiver and Returner DeSean Jackson. The franchise tag is worth $9.4 million for a wideout in 2012. That is equal to the average of the 5 highest paid players at his position. Jackson becomes the first NFL player to be given a franchise tag this year.

Fans started lining up at Citizens Bank Park early Thursday to make sure they got their hands on tickets to the games they had their eyes on, whether it be a giveaway night, the first night home game, or just one on the schedule that fits their plans. Apparently the Washington Nationals would rather see empty seats than Phillies fans in the seats of their ballpark. Forget You, Philly is the new cry from the Nationals top brass. They've named the campaign, "Take Back the Park." The Nationals plan to prevent Phillies fans from buying tickets by refusing to sell tickets to anyone who doesn't have a Washington, Maryland or Virginia address attached to their credit card. Long time Phillie Left Fielder, Pat Burrell Retires After 12 Years

Pat Burrell, 35, is putting down the bat after a 12 year career. He was drafted No. 1 overall by the Phillies in 1998 out of the University of Miami as a third baseman, but spent the majority of his career as a left fielder. He was most notably known for his prowess at the plate. Pat the Bat finished his career just shy of 300 HR's at 292.

Eagles Hire Todd Bowles to Coach Eagles Defensive Backs

The Philadelphia Eagles are bringing in former Miami Dolphins interim head coach, Todd Bowles to be the Birds defensive backs coach. Juan Castillo will remain defensive coordinator.

Bowles will be in charge of the entire secondary. Safeties coach Mike Zordich will report to under Bowles. Bowles will fill the vacancy left by Johnnie Lynn after he Eagles fired him.
