Ryan Madson Signs With Cincinnati Reds for $8.5 Million

Ryan Madson will be wearing red next year but it will be for the Cincinnati Reds, not the Philadelphia Phillies. Madson reached an oral agreement for a 1-year contract worth $8.5 million to pitch as their closer next year. He will be replacing Fransico Cordero whose $12 million option was declined, in favor of a $1 million buy out.

Philadelphia is likely to become the focal point of the NFL - player suit over concussion injuries. A group of former players has filed lawsuits against the NFL alleging that the league is partly responsible for their concussion-related brain injuries. The 76ers started this abbreviated season away from home. And after five games, a 3 and 2 record and 11 days on the road, they'll be playing hoops close to home for awhile.

After the Friday night home opener against the Detroit Pistons, the 76ers won't have to venture far from the Wells Fargo Center for more than two weeks.

Andy Reid Will Return as Eagles Head Coach in 2012

Eagles Chairman/CEO Jeffrey Lurie announced during today's press conference that head coach Andy Reid will return for his 14th season in 2012. After high expectations at the beginning of the season, the Eagles started off slow, but finished well to end the season 8-8. Reid has only had 1 losing season as head coach after his first year in 1999, and has had an overall record of 126-81-1.

Winter Classic Penn State Hockey

Hockey's Winter Classic is January 2nd between the Flyers and New York Rangers. One of the other many outdoor hockey games on tap for Citizens Bank Park next week will be a college battle between 14-2 Penn State and 7-3 Neumann University on January 4th.

Neumann is one of the top squads in Division III while Penn State is transitioning up to the Division I level from club status in the ACHA. Nittany Lions head coach Guy Gadowsky says that transition is going quite well.Read More

Hunter Pence of the Philadelphia Phillies has signed a 3-year endorsement deal with Liscio's Bakery. The Glassboro, NJ hoagie-and-cheesesteak rollmaker hired the outfielder as its spokesman for a campaign to run on television, radio, billboards and in-stadium advertising, as well as online.

The list of former players suing the NFL over brain injuries now includes a former Philadelphia Eagle.

The Philadelphia Business Journal reports: Dorsey Levens, who played with the Eagles in 2002 and 2004 and spent most of his career with the Green Bay Packers, has filed a federal lawsuit in Atlanta. Ed Wade to Return to the Philadelphia Phillies

The Phillies are bringing former GM Ed Wade back into the organization. Wade was fired by the Astros after last season. Ed will re-join the Philadelphia Phillies as a special consultant to the baseball operations department. During his time as GM in Philadelphia, Wade acquired players such as Jim Thome, Shane Victorino and Billy Wagner. He was also at the helm when the Phillies drafted Chase Utley, Ryan Howard, Pat Burrell, Cole Hamels, Ryan Madson and Brett Myers.

The Philadelphia Eagles are still alive. Sitting at a record of 6 - 8, they still have a shot at the playoffs. Winning their last two regular season games, and many other scenario combinations are keeping them in the playoff hunt.

The Eagles next test is in Dallas on Christmas Eve against the Cowboys.
