A man is in custody after a person was shot and killed in an office building in North Philadelphia late Friday morning, 10/1. It happened around 11:30 a.m. at Logan Plaza at 5201 Old York Road. A man was shot in the head on the first floor of the building and pronounced dead a short time later. Police treated it as an active shooter situation and began to search the entire building. 19-year-old Gilbert Newton of Philadelphia was convicted of first-degree murder on Wednesday, 9/29, in the stabbing death of his ex-girlfriend 18-year-old Megan McCaffery of Abington Township. The jury deliberated for 2 1/2 hours before returning the guilty verdict. He faces a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole.
