A man convicted of killing a trans woman and LGBTQ+ advocate in May 2019 has been sentenced. 30-year-old Troy Bailey was found guilty of third-degree murder and other charges in the death of 40-year-old Michelle "Tamika" Washington last week. He was sentenced to 25-50 years in prison. It happened around 5 a.m. Sunday, 5/19/19, on the 3400 block of North 11th Street. Washington was shot multiple times to her head and body. Five stowaways were detained by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents after they were discovered on a container ship in port in Delaware County. It happened on Monday afternoon, 7/26, at Penn Terminals in Eddystone, PA. Officials were searching the AS PETRA sailing under the Liberian flag. A New Jersey woman has been charged after she was caught on video shouting racial slurs and throwing items at a hotel clerk early Monday morning, 7/19. It happened around 12:30 a.m. at the Super 8 Motel on Fellowship Road in Mount Laurel, NJ. Mount Laurel Police Department responded to a report a women being disorderly in the lobby of the hotel. Hazy skies across the Delaware Valley are being blamed on smoke from wildfires in western Canada. The smoke is being carried across the continent on the jet stream and settling high the atmosphere above us causing that haze. The National Weather Service has issued an air quality alert because of the smoke.
