Nutter Not Appealing Firefighter Fund Order, Laid Off Teacher Seniority, Philly Rising Program

The Nutter Administration has decided not to fight last week's order from a city judge for increased payments to the firefighter's union health care fund. Because the Mayor is still appealing the firefighter's 2009 arbitration award, the union last week told a judge that their health care fund was nearly bone dry. The two married Philadelphia school teachers killed this weekend in North Carolina, were expecting a baby. William and Jamie Reid were married just three months ago and Jamie was pregnant with ultrasound photos in purse when the driver of the hired car taking them to the airport hit a tree. Will Reid was a math teacher for People to People charter school and Jamie taught writing and literature at Harrity Elementary.

Germantown Row Home Fire, Mud Closes Lincoln Drive, Tornado Hits Manahawkin, NJ

A family of four was displaced by a row home fire in Philadelphia Tuesday night at the 800 block of East Chelten Avenue in the Germantown section. Firefighters placed the blaze under control about a half hour later. No injuries were reported. The Red Cross says they are responding to help the residents displaced.

A Philadelphia police officer is in critical condition after being shot in the stomach this morning following a chase that ended in a corner store. The shooting happened around 11:55 am near 4th and Annsbury Streets in the Feltonville section. The incident began when the suspect was pulled over for a broken taillight near 5th Street and Allegheny Avenue. Man Dies at Phillies Game, ATM Theft Suspects, William R. Hite on School Opening

A baseball fan died last night at the Phillies game with the Atlanta Braves. A man fell about 65 feet from the upper level to a parking area behind Turner Field, Atlanta police were called to the scene about 9 pm and transported the man to the hospital where he died of his injuries. There was no indication of foul play.

Atlanta fire officials say a man has been hospitalized after falling from the stands at Turner Field during last nights Phillies-Braves game. The unidentified man fell 30 to 40 feet and was listed in serious condition at a local hospital. Details on exactly how the man fell and what part of the stadium the incident occurred in weren’t immediately available. The game was delayed by about an hour and 45 minutes past its scheduled start time because of heavy rains.
