Free Parking in Philadelphia for the Holidays

The Philadelphia Parking Authority is keeping in the spirit of holiday giving. So that you can plan weekend visits to the city for lunches, matinees and shopping, you can park for free. Every Saturday through New Year's, parking will be free on all city meters between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. And If you park in the following lots from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays, you will benefit from a flat $8 fee.

Phillies Offer Arbitration to Rollins, Madson and Ibanez

The Phillies have offered salary-arbitration deals to Jimmy Rollins, Ryan Madson and Raul Ibanez. If they accept, the Phillies will negotiate lower salary deals for the players to stay here. If they refuse, they can offer themselves to other teams for bigger salaries and the Phillies would get some extra picks in the draft. The Philadelphia 76ers new owner, Adam Aron is finding productive ways to stay busy while the NBA season is on hold. Last week he stayed up all night bidding on Julius Erving's memorabilia being auctioned on ebay. To raise some money, Dr. J posted some of his stuff on ebay and Aron decided to try to keep the memorobilia in Philly.

Amish Hair Cutting Hate Crime Leaders Arrested

Members of a breakaway Amish sect have been arrested in association with hate crimes against the Amish community. In September and October the breakaway group forcefully cut the beards and hair of Amish men and women. Cutting the hair is a highly offensive act to the Amish, who believe the Bible instructs women to let their hair grow long and men to grow beards and stop shaving once they marry.

Chritmas Tree Lighting in Philadelphia

On Tuesday, Philadelphia will light the Christmas Tree on Rittenhouse Square. The Tree Lighting Ceremony features holiday entertainment, character visits, complimentary roasted chestnuts, Santa Claus and plenty of holiday surprises. The Christmas Tree itself is more than 30 feet tall. The Salvation Army will be collecting unwrappped toys for needy children and TD Bank will be handing out free elf hats. The tree lighting ceremony starts at 5pm Tuesday on Rittenhouse Square.

Archbishop Carroll Athletic Director Pleads Guilty

The former athletic director at Archbishop Carroll High School pleaded guilty this week to charges that he arranged a sex tryst with a teenage boy he once recruited to play football at the school.

Francis Murphy of Bryn Mawr, faces up to 14 years in prison after pleading guilty in Montgomery County Court to unlawful contact and corruption of a minor. His attorneys called the crime an "isolated incident" and said they would argue against a jail term.

Occupy Philly Permit Appeal

OCCUPY PHILLY voted to appeal a permit application offered by the city. The permit application would bar protesters from camping overnight, and allow them to assemble at Thomas Paine Plaza only between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Members of the Occupy Philly legal collective said the restrictions would change the nature of the movement from an occupation to a demonstration, which would make a big difference in the power behind the group's message.

Alice's Restaurant is based on a true incident in the life of Arlo Guthrie that began on Thanksgiving Day 1965. Released in 1967, with its repetitive and catchy ragtime guitar backing, Arlo tells the tale of being arrested for illegally dumping some of Alice's garbage after discovering that the town dump was closed for the holiday.
