Each August as the Earth's annual orbit takes it through the remains of the comet Swift-Tuttle, we are treated to a dramatic show of meteors streaking through the sky called the Perseids. Named because they seem to radiate from the constellation Perseus, this meteor shower will peak this weekend through August 13th.
It is not uncommon to see up to 60 meteors an hour with the Perseids. The moon is in a waxing crescent phase. It will also be setting early in the evening.Read More |

Beloved singer, performer, TV star, and recording artist, well known for her hit "Blame it on the Bossa Nova" but mostly for her career and life with singer Steve Lawrence, Eydie Gorme passed away tonight at age 84. She died at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas following a brief, undisclosed illness. Gorme was born August 16th, 1928 in the Bronx in a Sephardic Jewish home. Investigators have found some forensic evidence in the search for a 7-month-old boy kidnapped from an Upper Darby home on Sunday. The boy was taken in the early hours on Sunday by the mother's boyfriend while they were visiting family. The boyfriend, Ummad Rushdi, was arrested earlier this week after telling a friend that he shook the crying baby to death and then buried him. Sixteen workers in Ocean County, New Jersey hold one of the winning Powerball tickets. The winning group work for Ocean County in vehicle maintenance and bought their ticket at an Acme in Little Egg Harbor. Three tickets matched the winning Powerball numbers splitting the $448 million jackpot. The Acme has been presented with a check for $30,000 for selling a winning ticket.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie signed into a law a bill that raises penalties for motorists who violate the state's keep-right law. The new fines have increased from $50 and $200 to between $100 and $300. The state is trying to crackdown on those who hog the left lane. Motorists are required to stay in the right lane unless passing slower traffic. The bill's sponsors said that staying in the left creates a dangerous situation.
