Philadelphia city lawmakers unveiled a plan to utilize Lincoln Financial Field as a mass vaccination site. The proposal has been dubbed 'Operation Philly Special.' Officials in Montgomery County are investigating after a man armed with a sword was shot and killed by police on Tuesday evening, 2/9. It happened around 7:30 p.m. on East 8th Street near Long Alley in Pennsburg. Police responded to a 911 call from a family member about a distressed person. National Transportation Safety Board investigators say that the pilot of the helicopter that crashed and killed NBA star Kobe Bryant and 7 others last year went against his training and violated federal flight rules. The board held a hearing on the investigation into the January 26, 2020, crash in Southern California. The City of Philadelphia announced that it is partnering with Children's Hospital of Philadelphia on a coronavirus COVID-19 vaccination program to inoculate teachers, principals, and staff members at all schools in Philadelphia. The program will include staff at all district, charter, independent, and parochial schools plus child care centers and pre-K providers, including classroom aides and cafeteria workers. Philadelphia Hall of Fame basketball coach John Chaney passed away on January 29. He was 89. Chaney led the Temple University men's basketball program for 24 seasons. Prior to that he coached at Cheyney State College, Simon Gratz High School, William L. Sayre Junior High School.

He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2001 and the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006.

Kenney designated June 19, Juneteenth, a holiday for all City employees. A woman was critically injured after a car crashed into her home on Saturday night, 2/6, in Northeast Philadelphia. It happened around 8:20 p.m. on the 2800 block of Comly Road near Caroline Road near Northeast Philadelphia Airport. A 27-year-old drove through the front of the house and pinned the 53-year-old resident under the car. She was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital in critical condition.
