You may not have heard of them yet, but Maps and Atlases is quickly gaining popularity. This indie rock band from Chicago is coming to Philadelphia this week and I would suggest checking them out!

The band has a history with Philadelphia. Front man Dave Davison was originally from the city. Davison also created a solo outlet called Cast Spells and collaborated on an EP with Philadelphia's Good Old War.

Maps and Atlases have toured with some of my favorite bands... Read More

Mick Jagger hosted the season finale of Saturday Night Live. He was terrific in all his skits, very funny, and a decent actor in his first time hosting SNL. He even played Steven Tyler of Aerosmith in one skit looking much like his large mouthed rock colleague. The highlights were definitely his two guest performances with Arcade Fire and Foo Fighters. Mick and Arcade Fire ripped through "The Last Time". Jagger joined Foo Fighters for a medley of "19th Nervous Breakdown" → "It's Only Rock... Read More

Facebook Launched into the world of Public Ownership with it's debut on the NASDAQ today. It wasn't an impressive IPO, but it wasn't a bust either, gaining slightly on the day. However, many people still became ridiculously rich in the process. U2's Bono held a 2.3% investment stake in Facebook before the IPO through his Elevation Partners investment group. That is now worth about $1.5 billion dollars. He has pledged to use much of the money raised from his investments to aid charity work in... Read More

Florida prosecutors released a massive package of evidence in the case against George Zimmerman in the death of Trayvon Martin. It contained documents, photos, and video. Most significant of that evidence is Trayvon Martin's autopsy report which found THC, the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, in his urine and blood. Also in the report is a photo of Zimmerman with a bloody nose, and a paramedic report describing minor bleeding to injuries to the back of his head. The investigators told... Read More
Punk?! Maybe in Bizarro World. Check out this 90's Commercial.

All the hairspray the genius marketing execs were using who came up with this compilation must have seeped well into their brains during the 80's, because this 90's infomercial for a 2 CD (or 2 cassette) collection of "tunes" called Punk misses the mark by about 1000 miles. Or maybe it's spot on because Huey Lewis, Crowd House, Men at Work, Human League, Culture Club really are synonymous with slam dance, working class, antiestablishment, against the mainstream, etc. Nope, they are all soft...
