  by: Rebel - Havertown, PA
started: 09/11/11 5:27 pm | updated: 09/11/11 5:27 pm

Hurricane Irene caused minimal structural damage to Atlantic City's casinos. But its revenue numbers have taken a huge hit dropping 19.8 percent, or $59.6 million from August last year.

Other factors adding to the hurricane-forced closure of the casinos include a weak economy and fierce competition from Pennsylvania casinos, which remained open during the hurricane.

By comparison, Pennsylvania's 10 casinos (with the exception of SugarHouse, which has not been... Read More

According to Mayor Nutter, Philadelphia's weekend curfew imposed on Center City and University City remains in effect until the curfew law can be rewritten.

He said there had been no more attacks attributed to so-called flash-mob violence since the curfew was enacted.

Nutter had 20 of the city's largest rec centers extend their hours to 10 p.m. on weekends.

Based on usage in August, Nutter said, eight of those centers would continue to keep... Read More

The 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the United States will stir emotions and memories across Philadelphia and America. Most will remember exactly where they were and what they were doing when the news of the attacks broke. Many witnessed the second plane hitting the World Trade Center live on TV and the ultimate collapse of both towers which killed all of those trapped inside as well as the fire and rescue workers trying to save them.

The Pentagon was hit and United... Read More

Jimmy Rollins has been activated from the 15-Day Disabled list and is available to play tonight in Milwaukee off the bench. He would most likely wouldn't have been activated until next week but since Chase Utley did not make the trip with the team, Rollins will take the spot as an extra infielder.

Chase will see Dr. Rob Franks at the Rothman Institute who is a concussion specialist. This is all precautionary. Hopefully Utley is alright after getting hit in the back of the helmet... Read More

  by: iradioal - Philadelphia, PA
started: 09/07/11 11:32 pm | updated: 09/07/11 11:32 pm

The Phillies looked to have squashed division rivals, the Atlanta Braves, with a three game sweep pushing them 10 1/2 games back in the standings. It was the first series sweep suffered by the Braves since the Phillies did it to them last September. It also put the Phils at another franchise high 43 games over .500 at 91-48 on their march to a record breaking season with 23 games left.

Not that there really was any doubt that Roy Oswalt, with all his experience, would have that... Read More

Phillies Reach 90 Wins Despite Rain; Tickets Can Still Be Exchanged

  by: iradioal - Philadelphia, PA
started: 09/07/11 12:59 am | updated: 09/07/11 12:59 am

The game may have started just under 2 hours late and only a few later innings saw the rain let up to a mist, but the Phillies keep proving they are deserving of the league leading 90-48 record. It was a minor miracle that a window opened up long enough and early enough that baseball could be played last night at a reasonable hour with drenching rains covering the area before and after, but Rookie of the Year candidate Vance Worley improved his record to 11-1 and the Phillies stretched their...
