Pennsylvania Auditor General Jack Wagner is calling on Governor Corbett to launch a statewide audit focusing on the widespread waste and evidence of fraud in the Pennsylvania Welfare Department's administration of the program that distributes heating assistance to low-income families. Perseid Meteor Showers Poised for show in Philly Skies

Every August as the Earth's orbit takes it through the remains of the comet Swift-Tuttle, we are treated to a dramatic show of meteors streaking through the sky called the Perseids. Named because they seem to radiate from the constellation Perseus, these meteors will peak as always in the early morning hours of Friday August 12th and Saturday August 13th.

Philadelphia bicyclists beware.....traffic citations may be coming your way.
Philadelphia Traffic Court president Judge Thomasine Tynes suggests, making city bicyclists register their bikes, cite them for moving violations such as riding on the sidewalk or blowing through stop signs, and then have those tickets dealt with by Traffic Court. Judge Tynes is not against cyclists, but says there is no punishment for not abiding by the law.

Lawyers for the Philadelphia Orchestra Association and the pension fund of the American Federation of Musicians were still butting heads in U.S. Bankruptcy Court over the union's demand for deeper layers of documentation relating to the orchestra's $120 million endowment.

London Riots leave Indie Label Warehouse Burnt to the Ground

On Tuesday, August 9 at 4:00am GMT on the third night of these increasingly senseless riots, the distribution warehouse for Sony/PIAS was set ablaze in North London. It was a 3 story/20,000 sq.ft facility mainly used by PIAS, a distribution company, that deals mainly with indie labels and stored cd's and vinyl for more that 150 labels on site.

Philadelphia Orchestra Bankruptcy Challenges Endowment Claim

The musician's union wants the Philadelphia Orchestra to tap its $120 million endowment if the Orchestra wants to withdraw from the union pension fund as part of bankruptcy reorganization. According to the union, the Philadelphia Orchestra would have to pay between $23 and $35 million into the pension fund. The Orchestra claims those funds are restricted by donor specifications. Philadelphia Mourns for a Proud Navy SEAL

The Navy SEALS, an elite fighting force for the US military, lost 30 soldiers in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan last week. The Philadelphia family and friends of Michael Joseph Strange, one of the SEALS lost, are remembering him as a true hero. If you owe traffic fines, or even back taxes, license plates in Delaware can now tell all.
Delaware state troopers are using new technology that lets them instantly check license plates to determine whether you owe traffic fines and even back taxes.

Troopers can now process up to 900 plates per minute.

Sunday's sermon at Mount Carmel Baptist Church, in West Philadelphia was a 30 minute emotionally packed message from Mayor Nutter regarding the flash mobs popping up in Center City. Nutter emphasized that it's a very small percentage of the city's youth who bring a bad name to the rest.
