Beyonce and Jay-Z Welcome New Baby "Blue Ivy"

Beyonce and Jay-Z are proud parents of a brand new baby girl. Blue Ivy Carter is the name of the infant delivered to pop star Beyonce, 30, and her music mogul husband Jay-Z. Blue Ivy was born Saturday night, according to E! The singer gave birth at Lenox Hill Hospital on Manhattan's upper East Side. A hospital employee told the New York Daily News that the couple rented out the hospital's entire fourth floor for $1.3 million.

Homeless Advocates Set Up Suburban Station Location

Philadelphia homeless advocates are trying a new approach to get the chronically homeless into shelter, this winter. They've set up shop in a storefront in the Suburban Station concourse.

A census last spring found more than 200 people living in the concourse; often those most resistant to seeking help. So help is coming to them.

Medical services and case management services are available.

Neshaminy School Teachers On Strike

More than 600 teachers in the Neshaminy School District walked off the job Monday.

The teachers have been working without a contract since 2008 and say they haven't received a pay increases since the last contract expired.
They currently pay nothing toward their health insurance premiums.

The union says it has offered concessions worth millions of dollars and says the board has failed to negotiate in good faith.

Penn State Town Hall Meeting Comes To King Of Prussia

The Penn State Alumni Association is sponsoring a series of meetings for school president, Rodney Erickson to discuss the Jerry Sandusky abuse scandal and its aftermath.

Thursday, over 600 people have registered to meet at the Radisson Hotel Valley Forge, where Erickson is attempting to fix the school’s public image and will try to ease concerns over cover-up allegations and the firing of long-time head coach Joe Paterno, among other issues.

Archdiocese of Philadelphia to Close 4 High Schools and 44 Grade Schools

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia announced today the recommendations from it's year long blue ribbon commission and it's intent to close 4 high schools and close/merge around 40 elementary schools. The high schools will close outright, while the affected grade schools will be merged with other schools to create larger regional schools.

The 76ers started this abbreviated season away from home. And after five games, a 3 and 2 record and 11 days on the road, they'll be playing hoops close to home for awhile.

After the Friday night home opener against the Detroit Pistons, the 76ers won't have to venture far from the Wells Fargo Center for more than two weeks.

Archdiocese of Philadelphia Expected to Announce Major School Closings

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia has taken the recommendations of it's 16-member blue-ribbon commission's year long review into the region's Catholic education into closed meetings this morning. They are to decide on the fate of the 156 elementary schools, 17 high schools, and 4 special eduction schools. The expectation is that as many as 40 elementary schools and 4 high schools could be closed this year.

New Jersey Internet Gambling Still Waiting

Plans were to fast track internet gambling in New Jersey through Senate and Assembly Committes today and have it on Governor Chris Christie's desk by Monday.

Instead, sponsors will reintroduce the plan next week when a new legislature is seated.

The idea is to allow personal online accounts with Atlantic City casinos for New Jersey residents only and they must be within the state while gambling.

16 Philadelphia Genaurdi's Supermarkets Sold

Giant Foods announced it will pay $106 million for 16 Genuardi's stores in the Philadelphia market. Three other Genuardi's stores will be closed and eight Genuardi's locations are still for sale, parent Safeway Inc. said separately, and the Genuardi's name is apparently on its way out.

2011 saw U.S. album sales post an increase for the first time since 2004 according to the Associated Press. Maybe this is an indicator of how the market will react to CD's that contain more than one good song.

U.S. album sales rose more than 3 percent last year for the first gain since 2004 -- a sign that rising digital sales are finally stemming the decade-long decline of compact discs.
