South Philadelphia will have to say goodbye to the Sunoco refineries. Sunoco Inc. announced it will sell or close its oil refineries in South Philly and Marcus Hook.

CEO Lynn L. Elsenhans took charge of the Philadelphia company three years ago and immediately began sweeping changes, but this is the biggest.

"We have made progress in increasing the efficiency of our refineries over the last several years, but given the unacceptable financial performance of these... Read More

Objectively for me, no! I do have this 'habit' of listening to an artist, in particular a full album/cd release straight thru!!!! Besides, 'listening' to one of the 'programmed stations' is like taking someone's 'shuffled i-pod' and going that route. MORESO I loathe those la front to back start to finish lp/cd!

President Obama this week stood on a bridge overlooking the rain-swollen and fast-rushing Passaic River in Paterson, New Jersey, and said the federal government would work to rebuild towns recovering from Hurricane Irene's wrath.

The Passaic had washed over the bridge, flooded the downtown and forced hundreds to evacuate cresting at a record 14 feet, twice its flood stage, depositing debris and muddy water stains on buildings and homes across Paterson.

Philadelphia School District investigators found evidence of "several violations" in state testing protocol at Roosevelt Middle School, supporting teachers' assertions that cheating occurred at the school.

One student's exam was completed and turned in even though the girl was absent the day of the test, according to the report.Read More
WYSP 94.1 FM Changes Format, A Philadelphia Legend Gone

started: 09/02/11 10:23 pm | updated: 09/02/11 10:23 pm
Philadelphia radio station WYSP-FM 94.1 is gone. Owner CBS has decided that the Philadelphia rock radio legend is no longer a worthwhile format to occupy the 94.1 FM frequency in the City of Brotherly Love. Instead, the powerful FM channel will be turned over to its AM sports talk sister station WIP.

After programming rock music for decades, native Philadelphia rock fans are mourning the loss of another FM music outlet to a talk format. Sure, business is business and it's all... Read More

Two weeks of saying goodbye wrapped up this afternoon. WYSP's rock formatted signal will now be the home of sister station, sports talk WIP, and will now be called Sports Radio 94 WIP.

The final two weeks of WYSP included many listener phone calls offering well wishes, as well as calls from some of rock's greatest, including Jon Anderson of Yes, and Alan Parsons.

Former jocks from the 70s like Denny Somach, through the 90s, like Couzin Ed, were on-air this week... Read More
Why Change 94.1 WYSP FM to WIP; Ultimate Demise of WYSP
  by: iradioal - Philadelphia, PA
started: 09/02/11 2:26 am | updated: 09/02/11 3:03 pm
94.1 WYSP is just one of a growing number of music FM stations that have followed AM's path to spoken word. In August, newly formed Merlin Media flipped 2 FM Alternative Rock stations 101.9 WRXP in New York and 101.1 WKQX in Chicago to All News. CBS has already changed 8 FM music stations to Sports Talk over the past 4 years, 610 WIP going to 94.1 will be #9. Right here in Philly, Greater Media turned Contemporary Hits station Now 97.5 into The Fanatic, simulcasting 950 WPEN in October 2009.... Read More

Arlene Ackerman may have put her payday at risk by opening her mouth on the radio and criticizing Philadelphia school officials. Her $905,000 separation agreement stipulated she would not make malicious public comments or disseminate any private information about the School Reform Commission. Yet, three days after she was out, Ackerman lambasted CFO Michael Masch on WURD-AM. With $500,000 of public money at stake, she could be in violation of her exit agreement and risks losing the money.Read More
