The old Reading Viaduct, becoming a city park? Talks have been going on for eight years to get city officials on board with the idea. Now, the city is in talks with Reading International Co. to take control of the larger section of the viaduct to transform it into an elevated public park.

Meanwhile, the Center City District is working with SEPTA on a legal agreement to create a park on the shorter section of the viaduct owned by the transit agency.

MTV Video Music Awards Celebrates Music Videos on Channel for at least One Night
  by: iradioal - Philadelphia, PA
started: 08/28/11 11:58 pm | updated: 08/28/11 11:58 pm
The MTV Video Music Awards may seem like a contradiction or at least ingenuine for a channel that doesn't play videos anymore and furthermore doesn't have VJs that can serve as the face of the station at the awards. In this, the channel's 30th year, reality programming is wall to wall, and music is no where to be found. Instead music fans turn elsewhere for the medium MTV heralded for years. They've watched all these nominated videos and they've become hits on websites like youtube. Artists who... Read More

The singer's autopsy, which was conducted today, came back with inconclusive results from the medical examiner's office in London. Toxicology results will not be available for 2-4 weeks. Officials read a short statement with the details and stated the matter will be officially revisited in October, however it will probably be opened sooner as results are available.

The embattled star was found dead in her London apartment on Saturday. Although these autopsy results are... Read More

Hurricane Irene's final statistics are still being calculated, but so far over 20 deaths resulted from the Atlantic storm. Over 1 million people lost power and many are still under floodwaters. Up to eight inches of rain were recorded in the Philadelphia area. The Schuylkill, crested today at 13.56 feet. Hurricane Irene Clean Up and Wrap Up
  by: iradiotom - Philadelphia, PA
started: 08/28/11 7:38 pm | updated: 08/28/11 7:38 pm
Now that Hurricane Irene has left the Philadelphia region, the Monday morning quarterbacks can assess the handling of preparations by our politicians and the media. The storm was not as windy or rainy as predicted, so damages were not as bad as feared. Do you think New Jersey Governor Christie, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg acted properly with evacuation orders? Or did they over-react? How about the news media? Too much Irene hype or was the... Read More

As Hurricane Irene begins to make it's way into the Philadelphia and South Jersey region, it is slightly weakened but still packs a powerful punch. Mayor Michael Nutter has declared a State of Emergency in the City of Philadelphia and cautions all those in flood prone areas to seek alternate shelter as soon as possible. Businesses and events in the city tonight are closed/canceled, as the rain and wind will intensify overnight.

Emergencies have also been declared in Pennsylvania,... Read More

  by: iradiotom - Philadelphia, PA
started: 08/01/11 6:39 pm | updated: 08/27/11 8:21 pm
Philadelphia AM radio station WHAT 1340 went off the air this morning and remained off the air all day. No station identification, nothing. Just hours of silence. The eerie void signaled the station is not returning to its Standards music format of 4 years and is preparing to go in a different direction.

The Pop Standards music format, dubbed "The Greatest Music of All Time" was previously known as Martini Lounge Radio, featuring artists like Frank Sinatra, Diana Krall, Tony... Read More
