Philadelphia Feeding Ban, School Budget Passes Amid Protest, Tire Slashing Returns

Philadelphia's outdoor feeding ban goes into effect today. The ban outlaws feedings of large numbers of homeless people on City parkland. Affected by the ban are popular tourist areas Love Park and Ben Franklin Parkway.

Amid shouting protests from teachers, the School Reform Commission approved a $2.5 billion school budget. Protesters believe the tighter budget shortchanges students. Supporters call it the first step in making schools fiscally sustainable.

Tire slashing is back. In Northeast Philly’s Oxford Circle section overnight 11 tires on three vehicles were slashed by vandals. The vandalism was in the 7000 block of Roosevelt Boulevard. Police are investigating.

Sports
The Phillies open a series with the Marlins tonight at home. Kyle Kendrick will be on the mound.

Weather
Severe Thunderstorms are possible today. High 78 in Philadelphia.
