PA Liquor Sales Debate, Clergy Sex Abuse-No Verdict, Teen Predator Soccer Coach Sentenced

Pennsylvania's House of Representatives called it a night after three hours of debate over a whether the state government should turn over the sale of liquor and wine to private business. Proponents said Majority Leader Mike Turzai's proposal would provide the convenience and lower prices consumers want. But opponents warned that privatization would throw thousands of state-store employees out of work while doing little to placate constituents who find better deals in other states.

The jury in the clergy sexual abuse case has finished its sixth day of deliberations without reaching a verdict. The jury broke for the day after re-hearing trial testimony of statements made by defendant James Brennan during a church investigation of allegations of an assault during an overnight stay at the priestâ€™s apartment. Father James Brennan is accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy in 1996.

A former volunteer youth girlâ€™s soccer coach from Philadelphia was sentenced to 12.5 to 25-years in jail on Monday, after pleading guilty last year to using social media sites like MySpace and Facebook to prey on teenage girls. Investigators first became aware of Vincent Mickle in 2010, when he showed up to a teenage girlâ€™s field hockey game to watch the girl, who he had met online. The teen became alarmed, and told schools officials and later police.
