The Supreme Court upheld President Obama's health care overhaul with a 5-4 vote today ruling that it was mostly ok. The biggest part of contention was the requirement that all people purchase health care - the individual mandate. Opponents argued this is unconstitutional because the Commerce clause of the Constitution gives Congress power to regulate inter-state commerce, but not to force anyone to participate in it by making them buy something. However, in the majority opinion, Chief Justice John Roberts noted this discrepancy, but said that the penalty on persons who choose not to purchase insurance is essentially a tax which Congress does have the authority to impose. The judges did strike down the provision of Obamacare that states would lose all Medicaid if they did not participate in the expansion.

The Philadelphia Orchestra is on it's way to emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy. U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Eric Frank approved the orchestra's reorganization plans and they did not get any opposition from those parties in attendance. Although reaching this point without failure is a significant milestone in saving the cultural institution there is much work to be done on the road to recovery. Pay-cuts were taken, rent reduced, pensions and benefits shifted, and mergers stopped but the Philadelphia Orchestra will still need to make ends meet and grow into the future. Ticket sale growth and donor confidence in the institution can help expand the endowment so future generations can enjoy the world class musical legacy that is our orchestra.

Authorities have issued a warrant after the South Jersey man charged with DUI 5 times in five weeks failed to show up for his court hearing today. Anderson Sotomayor, 45, was out on $20,000 bail. He spent about a month in jail after his 5th DUI arrest on May 16th because he was also caught with prescription pills. His first 4 DUI arrests happened between April 9 and May 12th. He was processed and released each time because bail is not set for motor vehicles violations in NJ. Today he due in court for the first offense. UPDATE: Sotomayor was arrested Thursday night on his 6 DWI offense. He is currently in county jail on a no-bail warrant until court.

In Sports, Phillies lost the the Pirates 5-4.

Tonight, Very warm with mostly clear skies, temperatures remaining in the 80's for most of the evening in Philadelphia.
