I See Stars was first released in 2002 by the group La Honda and reissued in Jan. 2014 by two of the original members, Sarah Joyce and Malcolm Doherty. You might not recognize any of the members except that Sarah Joyce is the multi-platinum British singer/song writer Rumer. If you are not familiar with Rumer, you are missing an unusual mixture of a haunting voice, a retro style and memorable music and lyrics. Her two solo albums, Seasons of My Soul and Boys Don't Cry contain some A-1 songs including “Slow” and “Sarah Smile.” Yes, that is Hall and Oates “Sarah Smile.” Catch her duet with Daryl Hall on YouTube, it will blow you away. (see below)

Most of the songs on I See Stars were written by Malcolm Doherty who also played guitar. Dave Roberts was the drummer, Mark-George Brown bass guitar and violin and Daron Robinson played the electric guitar. Sarah, Rumer, sang lead with a sound and style that is reminiscent of Karen Carpenter and Dusty Springfield. This is a throwback album, easy listening, naive and refreshing.

From the first cut “Take A Look Around You” you can hear the 60's, the sounds of Buffalo Springfield, the Mamas and the Papas and the Laurel Canyon. “Maybe Sunshine” is more lush, quick paced and orchestrated. Karen Carpenter comes back to life when Sarah sings “Solid Gold” stunning in the simplicity and character of her voice. There are a couple of unusual tracks including “Moth In the Incubator” and “Rich Man's Wife” yet they fit. You can hear the singer and songwriter Rumer is to become in the last track “The One That Got Away.” A soulful and smooth tune that highlights that stunning voice. If you want a something different, something easy, some candy for your heart and ears, buy I See Stars. I'm hopping Rumer does an America tour. Last year she spent time recording with Jimmy Webb and Burt Bacharach, but did not tour.
