DeSean Jackson and Philadelphia Eagles sign $51 Million deal

The Eagles had already put the franchise tag on DeSean Jackson, meaning he would have made a guaranteed $9.5 million for 2012, unless another deal was negotiated. Well the Eagles and their capricious wide receiver did just that, locking up DeSean to a long term 5 year deal.

"We are thrilled to be able to keep one of the NFL's top playmakers in Philadelphia," Andy Reid said in a release. "DeSean is a game breaker, he has the speed and ability to score from anywhere on the field, and he has proven himself to be a big threat for our offense."

Approximately $15 million of that contract is guaranteed. This is a big move and vote of confidence in their offensive weapon, who is coming off a down season production-wise and one where he showed some discipline issues.

The Eagles' objectives so far this off season have been to lock up their own talent instead of pulling in from the free agent market. So far they've signed extensions for RT Todd Herremans and DE Trent Cole. Now that Jackson is all signed up, they can focus on signing Pro-Bowl RB LeSean McCoy to an extension.
