Two teenagers are now in custody for their role in the shootings on South Street last Saturday 6/4. 18-year-old Qaadir Dukes-Hill of Drexel Hill and 18-year-old Nahjee Whittington of Philadelphia were taken into custody by U.S. Marshals in Richmond, Virginia, on Thursday morning, 6/9. Dukes-Hill is charged with the murder of 24-year-old Alexis Quinn. Whittington is charged with the murder of 22-year-old Kris Minners. Whittington was 17-years-old at the time of the shooting, just 4 days shy of his 18th birthday. Prosecutors plan to try him as an adult. The two teens are believed to be friends. They were seen on surveillance video from the night wearing the same sweatshirt and fled together to the same apartment in Richmond. They were not part of the initial altercation that started the gunfire. They were down the street and just randomly opened fire.

"It does not appear that these groups knew each other. This to me seems to be that Mr. Whittington and Mr. Dukes-Hill, in response to gun shots that were happening down the street, just took out their gun and randomly fired. And unfortunately Alexis Quinn was hit by a shot fired by Mr. Dukes-Hill and Mr. Minners was hit by a shot fired by Mr. Whittington," Assistant District Attorney Joanne Pescatore said.

The National Weather Service Mount Holly/Philadelphia confirmed that a tornado touched down in Blackwood, Camden County early Thursday morning, 6/9. The storm was rated an EF1 with wind speeds of 90 mph. It came with a line of thunderstorms around 5 a.m. near the Deer Park Development. Several trees were uprooted with one falling on a home. No injuries were reported.

Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro announced the takedown of a large drug operation in Kensington on Thursday, 6/9, by the attorney general office's Kensington Initiative. The initiative is a partnership between local, state, and federal agencies to target major drug activity in the neighborhood. 23 people were arrested and charged including the father-son ringleaders, Curtis Coates Sr. and Curtis Coates Jr. The Coates' are accused of renting street corners to drug dealers for as much as $3,000 per week. They controlled as many as 12 street corners and collected $20,000 - $30,000 per week for leasing out Kensington street corners to sellers. "Coates and his son stole public city block corners and rented them for profit to drug dealers," Shapiro said in a statement. "These are corners children wait for buses on, corners you cross to get to work. And they stole them and rented them for top dollar to bring poison and violence into these neighborhoods." They also seized 90,000 doses of heroin/fentanyl, 47 grams of meth, 29 firearms, and $179,000 in cash.
