London Rocks at 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremonies |

It's once more time for the Olympics and over the next 16 days of glory we'll get Bob Costas spinning us a 1000 different human interest stories out of the actual sports that are going on. I do thoroughly enjoy the Olympics for the games, especially since we don't get to see many of these except for every four years. I get enough excitement out of the actual winning, losing, competition, and athletics. I don't care too much about the fluff. That's why the Opening Ceremonies usually don't appeal... Read More |

Recently I had the chance to sit down backstage for a Corner Table conversation with singer/songwriter Jeffrey Gaines. You can catch the interview in its entirety today (7/25) on iRadioPhilly's BYO radio station at at 3 pm.
Jeffrey is a very interesting guy. Originally from Harrisburg, Jeffrey Gaines now calls Philadelphia his home. He started out as a posing hard rocker in high school bands and eventually grew into the powerful,... Read More |

Firefly Festival in Dover Delaware |

This past weekend I attended the first ever Firefly Music Festival in Dover Delaware. The festival included headliners Jack White, The Killers, and The Black Keys all of whom gave excellent performances. Jack White engaged the audience by performing some of hits from his older bands but focused on his new album Blunderbuss as well. He ended his set with Seven Nation Army. All weekend people were singing that song as they left the venue.
The Killers' performance created a sense... Read More |

Xponential Festival is a success! |

This past weekend I was fortunate enough to attend both the Firefly Music Festival in Dover, DE, and the Xponential Festival in Camden, NJ. Although they took place during the same three days, the Xponential Festival had a suprising turnout. Xponential might not have had as famous of artists such as Jack White and the Black Keys, but they did headline Dr. Dog, Wilco, and Counting Crows. I was surprised at the large turnout at Xponential as it is on a much smaller scale and mostly only local... Read More |

Saturday, Day 2, at the Firefly Music Festival in Dover, DE, ended with a bang from the pyrotechnics of mainstage headliners The Killers, but there was plenty of action through out the earlier part of the day. The weather was again very cool and cloudy, with a few sprinkles throughout the day. It was very comfortable for a festival held in the middle of a mid-Atlantic summer. It feels like early April. The sun will indeed come out tomorrow, but still only reach about 80. The British isles type... Read More |

Friday was the first day of the inaugural Firefly Music Festival. The festival is being held at The Woodlands which is an 87-acre tract of grassy areas between wooded tree lines across Route 1 from the Dover International Speedway in Delaware. This centrally locates it to many of the Mid-Atlantic's large cities including New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, DC. There haven't been many multi-day festivals so easily accessible to fans along the East Coast. Firefly comes complete with... Read More |

Breakwater reunites at World Cafe Live 7/21 |
|
by: Kibarra - Philadelphia, PA started: 07/19/12 5:05 pm | updated: 07/19/12 5:05 pm |

Breakwater, a soulful funk band from Philadelphia, emerged onto the music scene in 1978. They played locally and cranked out covers and original cuts at block parties, bars, and other venues. Once they were signed to Artista Records, their singles crept onto the music charts and made an impact on radio rotations. As ready as they seemed to take on the fame and fortune, they broke up in the mid 80s and slowly drifted apart.
Out of the blue Breakwater has reunited recently and is... Read More |

Bastille Day at Eastern State Penitentiary July 14 at 4:30 |
|
by: iradioal - Philadelphia, PA started: 07/14/12 6:16 pm | updated: 07/14/12 7:18 pm |

Bastille Day, July 14th, is the French National Holiday commemorating the anniversary of the storming of the Bastille fortress prison on July 14, 1789. That act is seen as the symbol of the uprising of the French Revolultion and the start of the modern nation of France.
Here in Philadelphia the biggest Bastille Day celebration is held every year outside the walls of Eastern State Penitentiary. The reenactment of the Storming of the Bastille is rather playful, tongue in cheek, and... Read More |

Next Monday, July 16th, arguably one of the best indie rock club tours of the summer will be in town playing Union Transfer. The double bill of Best Coast and Those Darlins both harken back to a different time and a different place, that you just can't put your finger, it's just not here and not now. If you had to try you'll probably be somewhere way west and 60 years earlier.
Best Coast, headed by Bethany Constentino with Bobb Bruno, captures the perfect warm, breezy... Read More |
