Teen clothing retailer Abercrombie & Fitch has offered to pay cast members from MTV's "Jersey Shore" to stop wearing its clothes. In a press release the company said it is "deeply concerned" that Michael "The Situation" Sorrentino "could cause significant damage" to the brand's "aspirational nature."
MTV released a statement in response that called Abercrombie's offer a clever PR stunt: "We'd love to work with them on other ways they can leverage Jersey Shore to reach the largest... Read More |

Every August as the Earth's orbit takes it through the remains of the comet Swift-Tuttle, we are treated to a dramatic show of meteors streaking through the sky called the Perseids. Named because they seem to radiate from the constellation Perseus, these meteors will peak as always in the early morning hours of Friday August 12th and Saturday August 13th.
It is not uncommon to see up to 50 meteors an hour with the Perseids, unfortunately however this year, the moon will be... Read More |

The musician's union wants the Philadelphia Orchestra to tap its $120 million endowment if the Orchestra wants to withdraw from the union pension fund as part of bankruptcy reorganization. According to the union, the Philadelphia Orchestra would have to pay between $23 and $35 million into the pension fund. The Orchestra claims those funds are restricted by donor specifications. But in Chapter 11 court proceedings, the 476 documents produced don't show evidence of specific donor wishes. The... Read More |

The Barnes Museum on Latch's Lane in Merion hosted its final visitors last weekend. For the first time since 1922, the galleries of the Barnes Foundation will no longer be open to the public. For years, the Barnes Museum, on 12 acres in Lower Merion Township has been the center of debate. First there was a movement to relocate it, then when the move to Philadelphia became imminent, a movement to see it stay.
The collection of Impressionist and early Modern works was... Read More |

Philadelphia Loves Kickball |
|
by: Rebel - Havertown, PA started: 07/05/11 2:25 pm | updated: 07/05/11 2:25 pm |

The 4th of July has come and gone but kickball is here to stay. One of the favorite summertime neighborhood games of youth is seeing a resurgence among adults in Philadelphia.
It is now selling out rec leagues and dominating field reservations year-round in the city and across the globe.
Kickball plays like softball's demented little brother. The pitcher rolls a large, bouncy ball toward a kicker, rather than a batter. When the ball is kicked into play, fielders... Read More |

Day 3 Dave Matthews Band Caravan Time to Wrap it up and Bring it on Home |
|
by: iradioal - Philadelphia, PA started: 06/27/11 1:43 am | updated: 06/27/11 2:28 pm |

Day 3, Sunday, was again another perfect day in Atlantic City. We got away with three beautiful days in a row with no rain and no oppressive heat. The location helps, right in the inter-coastal waterway, so there's a cool breeze from the water. Today's crowd was noticeably smaller than yesterday's closer to Friday's attendance.
Alright, let me run through some of the music. I unfortunately was running late and missed Alberta Cross and Dawes, but I heard they both had decent sets.... Read More |

Day 2 Dave Matthews Band Caravan Worldly Music Decends |
|
by: iradioal - Philadelphia, PA started: 06/26/11 1:35 am | updated: 06/27/11 2:27 pm |
|
Saturday, Day 2, has came and went on Bader field and it was another perfect day. Slightly cooler and less windy than Friday, but couldn't have ordered up a better sky. The crowd was definitely much larger and earlier arriving that Friday, but that was expected as the weekend is in full swing.
That large crowd also had to keep moving back and forth all day. from one stage to the next like they were attached in the head, from Dave & Tim, to Thievery Corporation, then back to... Read More |

by: iradioal - Philadelphia, PA started: 06/25/11 1:36 am | updated: 06/27/11 2:26 pm |
|
The first day of the 3 day Caravan festival has completed down in Atlantic City. Everyone here was very fortunate that none of the scattered strong thunderstorms in the rest area came through and hit Bader Field, we were all left dry, albeit very dirty and dusty. The forecast for the rest of the weekend looks clear and slightly cooler as well, which will be perfect.
The crowds were light early on, probably being a Friday (weekday) but filled in as the day progressed. This weekend... Read More |
