Chase Utley could be Activated for Wednesday's Game

The Phillies are planning to activate Chase Utley for Wednesday's game vs. the Pirates. Utley's been playing official minor league rehab games for the Clearwater Threshers in Florida. He will probably play one more up here, most likely for AAA Lehigh Valley on Tuesday. He started those games hitting as a DH before eventually taking the field at 2B. His rehab assignment officially ends July 1st, but provided no setbacks he will end early. He played nine games for the Phillies’ Clearwater... Read More

Camden Boil Water Alert Has Been Lifted

The Boil Water Alert for residents of Camden living west of the Cooper River serviced by United Water that has been in effect since Thursday has been lifted. The mandatory non-essential water use restriction has also been lifted.

Both alerts were put into place on Thursday after water levels and pressure reached critically low levels and quality was unsafe for consumption.

The Philadelphia Phillies beat the Tampa Bay Rays 7-6 this afternoon with a pinch-hit walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the 9th by Jim Thome. He came off the bench to pinch hit for Jonathan Papelbon, who blew the save with a two run lead in the top of the ninth. Thome has talked about how difficult pinch hitting is, without the regular at bats, but last week's American league road trip helped get him back in stride as the DH. Two Finalists Announced for Philadelphia School District Superintendent; SEPTA Assault Arrest video

Two finalists have been announced for the Philadelphia School District superintendent position. About 100 candidates either applied or were nominated for the position, 4 of which were from Philadelphia. The search committee narrowed that pool down to the final two candidates who will officially be presented to the public next week.

Friday's Phillies vs. Tampa game postponed and rescheduled for Sunday at 6:35pm

Last night's thunderstorms and heavy rains delayed the start of the Phillies' interleague series opener with the Tampa Bay Rays. After about an hour initial delay ground crew pulled the tarp and the teams and crowd started to make their way back into the stadium anticipating an 8:45 start. However, when they were just about ready the rains picked up again and the tarp came back out.

The game was finally called for good at 9:53 pm.

Jerry Sandusky found guilty on 45 of 48 charges.

Jerry Sandusky, 68, charged with 48 counts of sexually abusing 10 boys over a 15 year period was found guilty on 45 of 48 charges. Initially 52, 4 were thrown out during the course of the trial which started last Monday.

Lead Defense attorney Joe Amendola told reporters earlier today that he'd "probably die of a heart attack” if Sandusky beat all of the charges. “With 52 charges, do you know what the odds are of walking on all 48 or 52 charges? Very slim,”... Read More

Philadelphia Police Officer Jonathan Garcia Held For Trial, No Bail

Jonathan Garcia, a Philadelphia Police Officer from the South Philly 17th District, faced a federal magistrate today for a bond hearing. The magistrate ordered that Garcia must remain in federal custody pending trial.

Garcia is currently charged with selling heroin to a FBI confidential informant on 6 different occasion over the past 6 weeks. He is also charged with using his police issue handgun in committing those drug transactions. He has already plead not guilty to those... Read More

Jury delivers mixed verdict for both Rev James Brennan and Monsignor William Lynn

The jury in the landmark clergy sex-abuse case has delivered their verdict on the 13th day of deliberations. They have stated they are hung on the two charges against Rev James Brennan for child endangerment and attempted rape and unable to deliver a verdict.
