PA Appeals Court Halts Vote Certification; Woman Shot, Kids Hurt in Crash; Delco Hacked for Ransom

A Pennsylvania appeals court judge ordered state officials to halt any further certification of election results on Wednesday, 11/25. Commonwealth Court Judge Patricia McCullough ordered the stoppage "to the extent that there remains any further action to perfect the certification of the results." Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro says that this order does not affect the certification of the Presidential election which happened on Tuesday, 11/24. He tweeted, "This order does not impact yesterday's appointment of electors. We will be filing an appeal with the Pennsylvania Supreme Court momentarily." In that appeal, state officials said, "There is no conceivable justification for the lower court's issuance of such an order in this case." Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly and others had filed a lawsuit on Saturday, 11/21, challenging Pennsylvania's mail-in ballots. They argue that the state's expanded use of mail-in ballots was unconstitutional. Judge McCullough has scheduled a hearing for Friday. Over 2.5 millions Pennsylvanians voted by mail this election.

Philadelphia Police are investigating a shooting that led to a car crash in West Philadelphia early Wednesday morning, 11/25. It happened around 1 a.m. near the intersection of 51st and Market streets. A 34-year-old woman was a passenger in a Nissan when she was shot twice in the back. The male driver of the Nissan then lost control and crashed into a SUV carrying 5 children ages 3-11 and their parents. The SUV flipped over on its side. The woman was taken to Presbyterian Hospital in critical condition. The male driver ran off. The five children were taken to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia with minor injuries. "We know that vehicle was struck at least 15 times by gunfire. We found at least 15 bullets in that vehicle and in the back of the vehicle and the rear window was shot out," said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small.

A portion of Delaware County's government computer system has been attacked and hijacked by cybercriminals. The hackers are demanding a $500,000 ransom in Bitcoin to release control of the system. The systems include police reports, payroll, purchasing, and other databases. The county may be in the process of paying that ransom in order to free up their network. It is investigating the source of the intrusion.
