Body Matching Missing Casey Johnston's Description Found Near Her Car in NE Philadelphia

A body matching the description of a missing Bucks County woman has been found. 26-year-old Cassandra 'Casey' Johnston's vehicle was found in a wooded area just off Woodhaven Road (Rt. 63) at the exit to Rt. 1 North in Northeast Philadelphia on Saturday, 7/31. The body was found on Sunday afternoon, 8/1, about a half mile away from the car in a wooded area by Byberry Creek near Townsend and Southampton Roads. "I feel pretty comfortable that it is her," said Lower Southampton Township Police Chief Ted Krimmel.

Johnston's family had hired a private investigator who used a private aircraft to perform an aerial search of the routes she may have taken home. He spotted her vehicle off of Woodhaven Road. Police believe Johnston missed a turn, hit a guard rail, and flipped her car. They also say she may have been ejected through the sun roof. "The theory is, on the 12th, if you remember we had some flooding in the area. We think that culvert filled with water and probably moved her into that creek," Chief Krimmel said. "So that's why she wound up a half mile down the stream." An autopsy will confirm identity and cause of death. The investigation is ongoing. No foul play is suspected.

Johnston was last seen leaving a friend's house on Saturday morning, 7/10, around 5:30 a.m. near 12th and Vine in Philadelphia's Chinatown. Her silver 2016 Ford Focus was captured on traffic cam a few minutes later approaching I-95. She never made it home to Lower Bucks County.
