After an exciting final day of regular season play across the Colonial Athletic Association, it came down to the final game of the night to clear up the post season picture and put a wrap on the league championship. 5 of the 6 games had implications for the playoff/league championship picture. At the conclusion of Saturday's games Villanova (8-3, 6-2 CAA) received an automatic bid to the Division I Football Championship playoffs in addition to sharing the CAA Football title in a four way tie for first place. The playoffs brackets for the 20 spots will be announced Sunday at 1:30 pm on ESPNU.

UPDATE: The brackets were announced on Sunday. Villanova (8-3) will go on the road for the first round and face Stony Brook (9-2) next Saturday, Nov. 24th, with kickoff scheduled for 3 p.m. at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium in Stony Brook, N.Y.

Villanova won their final game of the season, on the road at rival Delaware, by a score of 41-10. Old Dominion beat James Madison in the final game of the night 38-28 to knock JMU's league record to 5-3. Old Dominion finished the season at the top of the standings with a record of 7-1, but they are ineligible for the championship and playoffs because they are moving up to the FBS level Conference USA next season. Villanova ended up with a 6-2 league record and a share of the championship with three other teams - New Hampshire, Richmond and Towson who all won today.

The tiebreaker for the automatic bid was tricky since not all teams played each other during the season. The next tiebreaker was results against the common opponent occupying the highest position in the league standings. All four teams played Old Dominion. Villanova was the only team to beat the Monarchs, which was their only league loss of the year and a week they were ranked #3 in the country.

This is the 10th time that Villanova has gone to the playoffs under Head Coach Andy Talley and the fourth in the last 5 years. It is also the 6th time they've held at least a share of the conference championship. This team is coming off a down year where they were 2-9. Now with most of the same players they are sharing first place and gained the automatic bid. Recent playoff history has proven successful for the Wildcats. They reached the quarterfinals of the playoffs in 2008, won their first-ever national championship in 2009 and advanced to the semifinals in 2010.

This year they were the leading rushing team in the CAA. Sophomore running back Kevin Monangai lead the CAA in rushing yards and redshirt freshman quarterback John Robertson came in 3rd on the ground.
