Three Delaware County men have been arrested and charged with the beating of a mailman earlier this year. 29-year-old Mark Timothy White of Holmes, 23-year-old Derek Alonzo Dawson of Ridley Park, and 20-year-old Joseph Douglas Marion of Morton are charged with aggravated assault, harassment and related offenses. The incident happened on January 30 on Harding Avenue in Morton. After the mailman parked his truck, the defendents pulled up in front of the truck in their vehicle and complained he was blocking the road. Once he got out of the vehicle the three men attacked him, punching him numerous times. The Pennsylvania Attorney General's office is handling the case. All three are being held at Delaware County Prison on $500,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is set for Octover 27th.

Yesterday, Thursday, October 20th, marked the two year anniversary of legislation in the City of Philadelphia that decriminalized marijuana. Cannabis activists celebrated the occasion with a 'Pop-up Weed Garden' on Eakins Oval. A few hundred gathered together and smoked openly as police looked on. After decriminalization, possession or use of a small amount (30 grams) is punishable by a civil ticket and not criminal arrest. You must pay a $25 ticket for possession or $100 if caught smoking. The policy has led to a significant reduction in arrests in the city. Coincidentally, former Republican mayoral candidate Sam Katz was caught yesterday morning with weed at the Philadelphia International Airport on his way to Florida. He was given a $25 citation and allowed to leave. If that happened in Florida he would have been arrested and faced 1 year in jail and $1,000 fine.

Police are investigating after a burned body was discovered in an alleyway in Kensington this morning. The charred remains were found just before 8 a.m. near the track tracks on the 2100 block of East Allegheny Avenue. The body was wrapped in a blanket and had been set on fire. There was no identification found and investigators could not immediately determine the gender of the victim. The K-9 unit was on the scene and authorities spent several hours gathering evidence.
