Flyers 10-Game Win Streak, Phillies Re-Sign Blanco, Eagles' Brandon Brooks Anxiety Disorder

The Flyers have now extended their win streak to 10 games, making this the longest winning streak since 1985. The Flyers took on the Colorado Avalanche Wednesday night in what turned out to be a tough and very close game. The Flyers were down, in the first two periods, but managed to come back with two goals by Roman Lyubimov and Brayden Schenn in the third period. Two previous Flyers goals were scored by Wayne Simmonds and Michael Del Zotto. Colorado had the chance to come back after they pulled out their goalie Calvin Pickard with 1:31 remaing in the third period, but Flyers goalie Steve Mason made incredible saves to stop the onslaught. Mason had a total of 26 saves Wednesday night. Mason stated, "Guys were giving everything they could to block shots, try to clear pucks. We had a broken stick, a failed clear on a wrong-way stick. It's a heck of a way to close out a game. It was pretty chaotic." Next the Flyers take on Dallas on Saturday night.

Phillies officials have now announced that Infielder Andres Blanco will be staying with the Phillies after they agreed to a 1-year, $3 million contract. Blanco was signed with the Phillies back in March of 2012. Blanco appeared in 90 games for the Phillies this past season, and had a .253 batting ERA, with 15 doubles, 4 home runs, and 21 RBI's. Blanco had also led the Phillies with 15 pinch hits over the last two seasons.

Eagles right guard Brandon Brooks announced on Wednesday that he has been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. Brooks has been out two of the last three games due to the illness, stating that it set in each morning before the game. Brooks stated "What I mean by anxiety condition, not nervousness or fear of the game, I have like an obsession with the game. It's an unhealthy obsession right now, and I'm working with team doctors and things to get everything straightened out and getting the help that I needed." Brooks said that he decided to get help after realizing he couldn't "defeat it himself" when he missed a game on November 28th against the Packers. He has stated that he is now on medication to help control his anxiety issue, and that it takes time to build up in his system, that is why he missed this past Sunday's game against the Redskins.
