The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OH, announced this year's inductees to the hall. First ballot inductees include The Doobie Brothers, Whitney Houston, Notorious B.I.G., and T.Rex. Other inductees Depeche Mode (3rd year) and Nine Inch Nails (3rd) round out this year's class. Rock Hall's 2020 Ahmet Ertegun Award - an award for industry professionals like songwriters, journalists, producers and executives - goes to Jon Landau and Irving Azoff.
The other nominees eligible on this year's ballot included: Pat Benatar, Dave Matthews Band, Judas Priest, Kraftwerk, MC5, Motörhead, Rufus featuring Chaka Khan, Philadelphia's own Todd Rundgren, Soundgarden, and Thin Lizzy.
Artists are first considered eligible for inclusion 25 years after their first release. Ballots are sent to 1,000 members of the music industry to vote. The Rock Hall selects the top vote getters with at least 50% of the votes for inclusion, usually 5-7 each year. The public also gets a vote. All of the public votes are tallied to create a ballot alongside the industry votes. The 35th Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, presented by Klipsch Audio, will be held at Public Auditorium in Cleveland, Ohio on May 2, 2020.
